How to Make the Perfect Beef Slider

July 5th, 2010

Need to jazz up your burger? Celebrate this summer with little beef bites that pack big flavour! You see them in restaurants and high-class eateries all across Canada, little bite-sized beefy sensations taking over the menu. These ‘sliders’ or mini-burgers are easy to make, even easier to eat and full of good-for-you vitamins and minerals.

Step 1: For the ideal burger, start with ground beef. For an added flavour twist, try your mini-burgers with lean ground round or sirloin. All of these lean options offer minimal flare ups on the grill, while offering the most in flavour and nutrition.

Step 2: For parties, try making a variety of flavour profiles for guests to enjoy.

Step 3: Follow basic burger recipes and decrease patty by half to two thirds – a flattened meatball in essence.

Step 4: Got the burgers made but stuck looking for itty-bitty buns? Try store bought dinner rolls, thin slices of toasted baguette, a quarter of a whole wheat wrap or use a cookie cutter to cut out rounds from pita bread. You can even just take a hot dog bun and cut it into thirds.

Step 5: Enjoy! Amazing! So much taste and nutrition in one little beef slider!

The delicious story of Manitoba beef

December 4th, 2009

free-press-front-page-aug-21-09I want to tell you a story. It’s about some farmers who care deeply for producing some of the best beef in the world right here in Manitoba.

I’m one of those farmers and I’m also the President and CEO of Keystone Processors Ltd., a new Manitoba beef company. In 2003, I joined with a few dozen other cattle producers who all believed passionately in their abilities to raise and market world-class beef. Our goal is to bring a new premium brand of Manitoba beef to the world.

And we know we can do it. Manitoba is blessed with clean air, plenty of great pasture land, and generations of expertise in raising juicy, delicious, tender beef. For too long, we’ve shipped our animals thousands of miles out of the province only to have our own beef bounce back to us on trucks to be sold in our local supermarkets. Read more…

Mise, Billabong, Bailey’s, Bistro … Keystone client list grows

August 13th, 2009

mise-website1The list of Winnipeg restaurants serving Manitoba-raised premium beef from Keystone Processors is growing with the recent additions of Mise Restaurant, Billabong Australian Restaurant and Bar, Bailey’s Restaurant and Bar, and Bistro 7 ¼.

For Mise Restaurant it was more than just the quality of the beef that Keystone Processors provided, it was also the consistency. Chef Terry Gereta appreciates the time he now saves by not having to shop around for quality and is happy the solution turned out to be a local one. “The beef has been very consistent – well marbled, that consistency has been the problem with past suppliers. And it’s great that its Manitoba raised beef. ” Read more…
